J P Gould Paper / Lane Press: Pages Magazine

Done in: Spring 2018 / Customer: J P Gould Paper / Lane Press Pages Magazine / Task: Advertising Design

What the client needed

JP Gould is a global paper distributor. In their words: “We provide a consultative-based approach for every paper need and service.” Their paper was one of the pillars of excellence for Pages: The magazine for those who love publishing.

My part of the project

Design an ad that denoted the worldwide reach of JP Gould for those seeking high-end solutions requiring paper.
While it wasn’t a requirement of the brief, research indicated that the company had recently been acquired by Japan pulp and paper. My solution was a globe of “paper” with the mountain on the planet vaguely reminiscent of Mt. Fuji.
The client appreciated the extra touch of their contact information arrayed along the string of a “paper cup telephone.” For my part, I wanted to introduce the obvious (but unexpected) element of approachability that I felt in conversation with a global company.

Issue information

From the Publisher, Thayer Long
“In this issue of LeadingPRINT, you’ll hear from innovators in print. Lawrence Chou, a young entrepreneur, built a successful printing business based on software engineering savvy and the intelligent use of data. Joe Gass shares how he has mastered Internet search engine optimization to attract exactly the kinds of customers he wants to his wide-format printing business. And Amy Miller tells us how she has incorporated new ways of doing things as CEO of a long-standing family print business.
“In this new year, make a resolution to try new things and to not be afraid of failure along the way. In 2019, Seth Godin’s assertion that “the cost of being wrong is less than the cost of doing nothing” could not ring more true. ”
