Building a Really Smart Factory

Done in: Fall 2018 / Customer: Association for Print Technologies / LeadingPRINT magazine / Task: Story Design

What the client needed

Automation is almost as gnarly a term as change these days. Jobs, customer service and profitability hang at the back of every business person’s mind as the 2008/2009 is more of a recent memory than most of us would like to admit. Tom O’Brien’s story about surviving those down times and the strategies that worked for him is a great read.

My part of the project

My part was trying to make serious percentages and graphs and hard decisions approachable. This is a place where a good photographer can create great pictures of a company. Photoshop and stock photography can kick the concept up to the next level.
I wanted to make the formula “agility, adaptation, and automation = rapid, profitable growth” into something not quite so mathematical. The robot illustration had enough poses that it would be a running reference to Acculink’s amazing automation capabilities while the reference shots of graphs and bar scanners told the story of massive turnaround.

Issue information

From the Publisher, Thayer Long
We believe in showing industry members “how” to achieve success, not just telling you “what” you need to do. And so, in the pages of LeadingPRINT magazine, you will find stories by entrepreneurial print service providers who are doing these things — and transforming their businesses in the process.
LeadingPRINT is about looking forward, not back. The business you have today is not the same as it was a few years ago, nor as it will be a few years ahead. We hope you find the unique content we produce and share in LeadingPRINT to be both informative and transformative.
